Culpeper County Police and Firefighters honored by VFW

Honorees Ray Satterfield, Melaka Saunders, Olivia Saunders, and David Cole
The Burton Hammond Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2524, Culpeper County, Virginia again honored the local police departments, both town of Culpeper, the county sheriffs’ department, firefighters, and rescue personnel both paid or volunteers. Continuing with the local VFW’s history this year’s event was held, however this celebration was conducted at the local hall on Sperryville Pike, Culpeper; volunteers from the VFW and local attendee’s provided a wonderful dinner.

Guest speaker Diego Castro presented the crowd of approximately 150 people with a dynamic speech detailing why we should honor not only these departments, but also our state and national forces. “Terrorism is our new enemy and our defense will be different.”

The honorees of the night for their outstanding professional services were Culpeper police office David Cole and Culpeper County Sheriff Ray Satterfield. Both officers were presented with certificates commemorating their services and briefly spoke with thanks to all of their co-workers and families.

Additionally the VFW presented awards for essay contest winners who had written detailed ideas on today’s national conditions as to “Is there pride in serving America.” Two of the winners, Melaka Saunders and Olivia Saunders graciously received awards along with remuneration for their efforts and beliefs.

A good time was had by all. Thanks VFW for your continued service to our community and nation.
